Okay, this is mostly directed at people who are multilingual and/or involved in online communities that are not in English. Are LOLcats, LOLspeak, et cetera popular in other languages? Whether it is related to cats or not, is there a certain humor or charm or whatever associated with phrasing things in a grammatically incorrect fashion? That is to say, in Spanish, could one say yo tiene un sabor for comedic effect?

What about words spelled so as to be incorrect but still phonetic? I'm actually having trouble thinking about how this would be done in other languages, since English spelling is so bizarre and has so many redundant letter combinations and rule exceptions that it's pretty easy to substitute alternate phonetic renderings for the correct spelling. And what about languages that decline nouns as well as conjugate verbs, or languages like Japanese that are hardly inflected at all?

I've been wondering this for a really long time, and I'm really curious now.

Sidenote: screw you, Firefox spellcheck. "Combinations" is a word.

...ANON CRUSH MEME ahahaha.

There had better be shenanigans, that's all I'm saying.

I'm looking for a good desktop calendar, since suddenly I have stuff to keep track of, and as I'm not sitting at a physical desk when I use my computer at home, a wall calendar or something isn't practical. So, I'm looking for downloadable calendar software that will sit on my desktop and will let me add notes, vacations, events, and so on that will be visible at a glance. Preferably something that will sit on my desktop itself and not in a separate window. Bonus points for color customization, the ability to give me pop-up notifications of things that I tell it to notify me of, classy sleek fading-in-and-out look, and not costing money.

Can anybody recommend something like this? A quick Google search turns up tons, but... you know.

Bed time!

I AM NOT A NUMBER, I AM A FREE MAN.

I've always wanted to watch this show. Sixties television, go!

Apparently the 2009 miniseries remake thingy involves Sir Ian McKellen, which cannot possibly go wrong.

Context: the Seiva War ended officially on June 25th of the year 302, following talks held in secret to prevent sabotage (which disrupted peace talks held in earlier years). Shiomaru and his company were captured during the last few months, and it was not confirmed until early July that they were even still alive; in the meantime, armies on both sides were ravaged by pneumonia, and casualties in the ensuing battles were also heavy. Ryoushi and Shiomaru grew up together, in a manner of speaking; they're from very different socioeconomic backgrounds, but met as children at the dojo in their village.

I may continue these.

Dear life: I apologise for mocking your lack of action-movie excitement. I get your point.

That is to say, today's baseball game was Jesus H. Tap-dancing Christ fucking awesome. I'll be damned if it wasn't the best game I've ever had the pleasure of attending. I'd go on, but I've been foaming at the mouth about it for long enough, and I need to sleep sometime.

Dear world: please stop using the verb "grow" in a transitive fashion. You sound like a bad internet advertisement, and it is driving me crazy.

Edit to clarify: you have my permission to grow a garden, a tulip, a beard and/or a moustache, a third leg, et cetera. However, you are hereby forbidden from growing assets, economies, businesses, or anything else that is not a living thing.

That is all.

Let's see. I am off work until Saturday! Hell, yes, it is time to paint the goddamned town red. By which I mean, uh, prune my rosebush, and probably bake something.

Life. So exciting. It's like an action movie over here.

The broken pipe in the yard is fixed, though the yard still looks like crap, given that they had to dig up a good portion of it just to find the leak. Anyway, um, Mom's tomato plants are producing! I ate a tomato yesterday, and goddamn if it wasn't the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. Home-grown produce is completely amazing, totally beyond the ken of modern man, and it makes me very upset that we have to be so dependent on shipped, shelf-ripened, flat, flavorless produce. When I have my own place, I will diligently plant a little vegetable garden every year, and have at least two fruit trees, and be as self-sufficient as is feasible with respect to consumption. It's better for me, better for the earth, and LIFE WILL BE DELICIOUS.

I am seeing a baseball game tonight with my father. I expect it'll be a good game; according to Dad, it's the Mariners' star pitcher versus the White Sox's star pitcher (who threw a no-hitter recently, apparently?), so I am hoping for some classy pitchers'-duel action.

Needless to say, I did not find someone with whom to see last night's Down concert. THAT IS A PITY. However, Clutch is playing in Philadelphia on September eleventh, so I need to make at least one friend at UPenn, if for no other reason than to drag them along to that show. I've had at least three opportunities to see them in the last two years, and I've managed to miss every one, so I think it's time to get off my ass and change that.

DAY

Tuesday. Day off! First time I've slept in and gotten a proper amount of sleep in far, far too long. Anyway, I made an apple pie yesterday, because I took home about twenty small apples from Legacies , and partially since it was Dad's birthday over the weekend, and he likes apple pie. I had some today; it's delicious.

So, the water pipe to the house broke this morning and started flooding the yard. Yay. Plumber came, plumber worked, plumber left, plumber will come again tomorrow because the damned thing isn't fixed yet. In the meantime, the yard's all dug up and dirty and full of holes slowly filling with water. Dad was here while the plumber was working, so I gave him his pie, and then walked downtown to deposit my pay from last week and get some lunch.

I'm... in an odd mood.

Aw.

A narwhal expresses its affection <3
First of all: does anyone want to go see that Down concert at the Showbox SoDo on Tuesday? I have this pathological thing about going to concerts alone (that is, I can't do it), and my brother has no money. So, I'm wondering if anybody is interested and would like company.

Anyway, so, this was... holy crap. My last Legacies event for almost a year. It was good! I enjoyed it, though I wish I hadn't slept so much. I haven't been getting quite enough sleep for the last week or so, what with waking up early for work, so... it caught up to me. I'm gonna miss this thing. These people.

This month makes three years of it, which is pretty crazy to think about.

Right, then, have a meme. [livejournal.com profile] sakuratsukikage gave me the character North Italy/Feliciano Vargas (from Axis Powers Hetalia).

1. Do you like this person?
Are you kidding me? I'm freaking in love with this guy. Ahaha, you think I'm kidding.

2. How do you call this person?
Generally, just Italy. When I want to specify between the two Italies, either North Italy or Veneziano. Occasionally, Feliciano, since it's rather fun to say!

3. Which color do you associate with this person?
Reds. Several kinds. Marsala Rubino red, that beautiful satiny auburn-red color that his hair is, gentle flowery blushing red, bright cherry Ferrari red, warm bricks in the evening sun red... I associate that red-white-and-green from the Italian flag with him, too, which makes sense.

4. Looking at his/her character, what blood type do you think he/she have?
I abstain from this question on the grounds that I know nothing about stereotypical blood-type personality associations.

5. What do you want to tell this person?
I want to hug him and tell him that everything will be alright, and then ask if I can drive one of his cars, and then suggest that we cook together.

6. What do you want to do with this person: hug, kiss or shake hands?
All of the above. Actually it's a fairly hard choice between hug and kiss, because I have no doubt that either would be fannnnntastic, because it's Italy and this is established. It sort of depends on how long the hug would last, and whether or not a hug is included in the kiss. Can I get a package deal of some sort?

7. Pick four five of your friends and pick one person for them.
No. (By which I mean, if you want a character, comment, and I will give you one!)

Also, last post's R-Rated Meme is still open for business.

Oh, boy.

The "You Should Write..." Meme!
my thread here

I've got a handful of other stuff that I'm working on, and I write so goddamned slowly and sporadically, but... I figure it won't hurt to do this thing! If there's anything at all that you'd like to see, please do post. I can't promise that I will follow through, but I promise to consider any suggestions.

In other news, I just printed out some of these guys. They live next to my laptop now. LITTLE PAPER NATION FRIENDS, JOIN ME IN MY BASEMENT HERMITAGE

Had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] sakuratsukikage today! Delicious sushi, followed by Star Trek. UHURA, YOU WERE AWESOME. Also, purchases were made in the direction of Axis Powers Hetalia cosplay.

Wednesday looks to be somewhere between 99 and 104. I suddenly feel so much more sympathy for..... well, much of the rest of the world?

I've been spoiled by my upbringing, I admit to this. The coastal Pacific Northwest has some of the best weather you'll ever find, ever, normally. No hurricanes, no tornados, no monsoons, no ice storms, (usually) no scorching heat, limited snow/ice, rare thunderstorms, only moderate humidity most of the time, no out-of-control wildfires... It's the perfect medium. And it doesn't actually rain as much as I would like everyone to believe. I mean, it still rains plenty, but it's just rain. It's typically not that heavy, pounding, waterfall rain that some places get. Overall, the weather is varied but far more tolerable than pretty much anywhere. The only significant natural disaster we have to think about is earthquakes. And within a few hours of my home, you can find gorgeous mountains, breathtaking ocean, ruggedly awesome desert, lush temperate rainforest... I've done a bit of traveling in my time, and I've seen some pretty great places, and there are a million places that I still want to see, and I know that they will be utterly amazing - but few things compare to what I've seen close to home. Maybe I'm biased, but I believe it.

OKAY ENOUGH OF THAT, have a meme, from forever ago, via [personal profile] zulu/[livejournal.com profile] queenzulu:

Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change. Something tiny (e.g. "and then Fay chose silver glitter instead of gold") or big (e.g. "and then Rose was arrested instead of Jack") and I'll tell you how that one difference would have altered the course of the entire story.

Any story is fair game, no matter how small or ancient.

Included in this "fair game" category are world continuities, any RPGs (tabletop or otherwise) that I've participated in, fanon/headcanon... whatever you like, really.

Ahhh, my brother just got home. WITH POPSICLES.

Weather Underground reports current humidity 75%, and forecasts a high of ninety-five degrees. Also, the Times says it may break one hundred tomorrow. IT ARE THE APOCALYPSE OH NO

I'M SURE HELL IS NICE AND BALMY THIS TIME OF YEAR

Okay, okay, enough of that. Also, I have clearly been driven to madness, for I am wearing shorts.

Work has picked up again! This is good.

I desperately need to do my laundry. Also, my rosebush had a sudden burst of activity! Most of the flowers are already past their peak, but I'm going to cut some if I can.
